Position Description

The Natural Resource Technician will serve as an integral member of a team of conservation professionals, working in both the field and the office, and will be responsible for conducting natural resource technical assistance, native plant nursery assistance, project monitoring and implementation and relating information to the public, partners, and funders. Additionally, the Natural Resource Technician will assist and support District staff in carrying out various tasks under the District’s annual plan of work.

The Natural Resource Technician will conduct program outreach and education related to riparian area health and stewardship throughout the District. This position will also support and assist with successful management and growth of the Wind River native plant nursery, a partnership with the Wind River Trust. Additionally, the Natural Resource Technician will provide technical assistance to landowners and help identify eligible projects that implement riparian area stewardship, protection, and restoration practices within the District, focusing on key watershed areas where salmon, steelhead, lamprey, bull trout and other critical species are present.

Key watersheds where projects may be identified and developed include: the Klickitat River, White Salmon River, Wind River and Washougal River. These watersheds are high priority river systems for anadromous fish and also serve as critical cold-water refuges along the Columbia River mainstem. Upstream, non-anadromous areas of these watersheds will also be within this project scope given their influence on water quality and quantity, affecting salmonid habitat downstream.

As projects are developed and funded, the Natural Resource Technician will assist with coordinating and carrying out projects, with support from contractors and crews.
