Retail & Store Manager
Position Purpose
Monitors, enforces, and supports execution of the division merchandising plan for the Bakery and Starbucks departments in assigned stores. Partners with Department Managers and Store Directors to drive sales, gross profit, labor performance, operational standards, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities- Travel to assigned stores to share and support merchandising plans to meet sales, gross, and labor targets.
- Provide coaching to Department Managers and Store Directors on product merchandising, production standards, and customer experience.
- Evaluate department conditions through regular store visits, ensuring presentation, cleanliness, and compliance with company policies, food safety, and equipment standards.
- Develop and maintain training programs to ensure strong product knowledge, beverage/food production skills, and readiness of qualified associates for both departments.
- Participate in division and departmental sales meetings; provide operational and merchandising insights to Sales Managers.
- Review departmental sales, labor, gross profit, productivity, and production accuracy reports from assigned stores.
- Ensure successful rollout of new programs, seasonal sets, line reviews, and promotional strategies; confirm store-level staff are trained and prepared.
- Monitor and report on competitor activity, trends, product offerings, and service models.
- Assist with new store openings and remodels, including department setup, merchandising, and staff training.
- Provide work guidance to associates on product knowledge, sales techniques, production tools, profit and loss awareness, and policy compliance.
- Train Department Managers on department operations, ordering, inventory, scheduling, and basic business management.
- Support Store Directors by offering performance feedback on Department Managers.
- Measure department execution and training success through store visit evaluations, KPI results, and staff feedback.
Preferred:
Education Level:
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related field and/or previous experience in merchandising of assigned product area and retail sales experience preferred.
- Graduate of the Retail Management Certificate Program preferred.
Experience Level:
- Store Director, Assistant Store Director, or Department Manager experience
Skills and Experiences:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to work effectively with diverse teams.
- Demonstrated marketing orientation, analytical skills, and problem‒solving ability.
- Ability to lead and motivate without direct supervision.
- Basic math competency for analyzing reports.
- Most work is performed in a temperature‑controlled environment
- Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer terminal
- Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of normal workday
- Store visits involve regular standing, walking, climbing stairs and movement in and around machinery and hazardous equipment, as well as backstage receiving and production areas
- Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required in completion of job duties
- Position may require some travel (up to 75%), including occasional weekend travel
- Workday is fast paced and stressful
75%+ of time is spent traveling.
Compensation and BenefitsThe pay range is $80,170 to $110,110 per year. Starting rates will vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement.
Dependent on length of service, hours worked and any applicable collective bargaining agreement, benefits include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay (accrued based on hours worked), PTO/Vacation pay (accrued based on hours worked), paid holidays (between 7‑9 days annually), bereavement pay, and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401k eligibility).
