Primary Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store.
• Smile and greet customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee’s designated department or elsewhere in the store; make an effort to learn customers’ names and address them by name whenever possible.
• Assist customers by escorting them to the products they’re looking for, securing products that are out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, noting and passing along customer suggestions or requests, and performing other tasks to enhance the shopping experience.
• Answer the telephone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service to customers who call.
• Work with co‑workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
• Unload trucks, open containers, stock shelves, run overstock on risers, and rotate product.
• Monitor for mis‑picked items, review product outs, wrong deliveries, and other discrepancies.
• Organize stock for greatest efficiency; clean and restock damaged items.
• Tag shelves with overstock in the back room and understock drawers.
• Report all new or different items to the scanning coordinator for input into the system.
• Maintain strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.
• Adhere to company policies and individual store guidelines.
• Report to work when scheduled and on time.

• Operate the register for customer purchases.
• Train new stockers in job duties.
• Conduct outside maintenance: shovel sidewalk of snow, spread ice melt, and pick up and return carts.
• Stock supplies, cigarettes, front‑end sacks, and deliver supplies to departments.
• Clean registers, restrooms, breakroom, backroom; sweep and mop floors; tend to supply needs.
• Order merchandise and supplies as needed.
• Assist in other areas of the store as needed.
• Perform other job‑related duties and special projects as required.

• Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization.
• Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions; write identifying information; request supplies orally or in writing.

High school diploma or equivalent experience. Six months or less of similar or related work experience.

• Must be able to perform very heavy work, exerting in excess of 100 pounds occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly, to move objects.
• Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.
• Must be able to perform climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

This position is exposed to dirt, noise, equipment movement hazard, and chemicals/solvents daily. It may also be exposed to temperature extremes and the potential for electrical shock.

Power jack, compactor, C.A.R.S. system, check register, forklift, scales, Tomra machines, two‑wheeler, and box cutter.

Responsible for supplies, stock, and for checking the cooler.

Has daily contact with community or trade/professional organizations, suppliers/vendors, and customers.

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre‑employment drug screen.
