Fall 2026 Science Intern – Washington, DC Regional Office

Eligible candidates are graduate students sharing a passion for justice and a healthy environment. The intern will assist Earthjustice’s advocacy work before federal agencies and courts by researching scientific questions. The internship lasts 10‑12 weeks, requiring 10‑15 hours per week, and can be fully remote from the U.S. or on a hybrid schedule at the Washington, DC office.

Under the supervision of the Sr. Staff Scientist, the intern may contribute comment letters to federal agencies; produce factsheets for community partners; write blog posts and internal memos summarizing research; and engage with Congressional members and staffers.

• Enrolled in a graduate program with an expected graduation date no earlier than December 2026. Priority will be given to those with a background in environmental science, biology, chemistry, engineering, public health, or a related field.
• Experience with or courses in environmental health (e.g., epidemiology, toxicology, human health risk assessment).
• Working knowledge of MS Office Suite and comfort navigating and learning new tools.
• Outstanding research skills, including scientific literature reviews and basic quantitative data analyses.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information to various audiences.
• Demonstrated commitment to Earthjustice’s values of Justice, Excellence, Inclusion, and Partnership.
• Commitment to 10‑15 hours per week for 10‑12 weeks.

• Ability to sit for extended periods with occasional standing and walking.
• Ability to type, file, and/or handle office equipment.
• Ability to lift and carry materials.
• Ability to read documents, conduct computer work and document review.

Interns receive a taxable hourly rate. The current hourly rate for graduate students is $27.39, which will refresh on July 1 2026 subject to Board approval.
