Job Overview
The case manager works to provide individualized support, advocacy, and guidance to opportunity youth (ages 16‑24) facing economic, academic, social, and employment barriers. The goal is to support students in achieving high school equivalency, developing life and career skills, accessing wrap‑around services, and transitioning successfully into employment, training, or postsecondary education. The case manager develops, monitors, and maintains case‑management plans, delivers group and individual support, and fosters community partnerships to ensure barrier reduction and progress toward personal and program goals.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct intake interviews, assessments, and screenings to identify goals and service needs.
- Proctor GED and CASAS testing.
- Develop and implement individualized case‑management and transition plans to help youth achieve goals.
- Provide referrals to community resources to address barriers such as housing, mental health, or substance use.
- Monitor student/member attendance, engagement, and progress toward goals to ensure successful outcomes.
- Collaborate with instructors, peers, partners, and external agencies to meet program objectives.
- Lead and support the delivery of orientation and mental toughness sessions to prepare youth for program participation.
- Organize workshops, community events, and service‑learning opportunities.
- Maintain accurate documentation in written and electronic formats to document activities and convey information.
- Ensure program compliance with policies, procedures, and reporting requirements.
- Represent NEWESD 101 at meetings, trainings, and conferences to gather and convey information.
- Transport members or students in NEWESD 101 vehicles as needed to support program activities and service‑learning events.
- Report immediately to agency supervisor or assistant superintendent any incident that poses a threat to the safety, security, or integrity of youth, staff, or partners, and follow up with a written incident report.
- Perform related duties as assigned; duties may not be specifically listed but are within the general occupational series and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's classification of work.
- Support construction and secondary track members.
- Facilitate group sessions (e.g., life skills, team building, support resources).
- Track Youth Build participation and follow‑up outcomes.
- Collaborate with staff to meet performance metrics (e.g., 75% employment rate).
- Provide case management in both classroom and online GED settings.
- Support student orientation and engagement across all sites (e.g., Cheney, Pullman, Crosswalk).
- Coordinate with partners for eligible youth referrals (e.g., Youth Build, Ameri Corps, Next Generation Zone).
- Monitor student learning plans and academic progress.
- Send weekly attendance outreach emails to non‑attending students.
- Support transition to employment or postsecondary pathways.
- Applying assessment instruments.
- Operating standard office equipment, including relevant software applications.
- Preparing and maintaining accurate records and case management documentation.
- Utilizing group presentation skills.
- General understanding of opportunities available to youth and the many barriers that they may bring with them.
- Knowledge of postsecondary processes, support services, and student success strategies.
- Knowledge of emergency, social, educational, domestic violence, child welfare, and human services systems and how to make referrals.
- Knowledge of GED preparation is desired.
- Adapting to changing work priorities.
- Communicating with diverse groups in a non‑judgmental manner.
- Managing time effectively and prioritizing tasks to meet goals and deadlines.
- Working flexible hours.
- Displaying patience and a sense of humor.
- Taking individual initiative and accepting responsibility and accountability for actions.
- Understanding verbal input, responding quickly, and maintaining confidentiality.
