System Development Engineer, AFT - Platform Engineering & Services

AFT Platform & Engineering Services is looking for a Systems Development Engineer to join our team! In this role you will contribute to improving development and operational excellence of multiple warehouse technology services utilized by our customers.

Each day, millions of customer shipments are processed worldwide through AFT services. Our team works on tools that enforce engineering best practices to ensure availability and scalability of these production services.

We are looking for systems development engineers who are excited to work on complex system software and are passionate about solving availability and scalability challenges in innovative ways.

As a System Development Engineer, you’ll be responsible for designing our system architecture, owning and implementing specific components, collaborating closely with other engineers, identifying areas of improvement, and driving automation initiatives. You will provide technical guidance, mentor other engineers, and drive continuous improvements in engineering and operational excellence.

Primary responsibilities include diagnosing and fixing production software issues, developing monitoring solutions, performing software maintenance and configuration, implementing fixes for internally developed code (Perl, C/C++, Java), debugging and executing persistence solution queries, updating, tracking and resolving technical challenges. Responsibilities also include working alongside development on Amazon Corporate and Divisional Software projects, updating/enhancing current software, automating support processes, documenting systems, and managing AFT org‑level operational cadence and programs.

The ideal candidate is detail oriented, has superior verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, can juggle multiple tasks independently, maintains professionalism under pressure, identifies problems before they occur, implements preventive solutions, prioritizes projects accurately, makes sound judgments, improves the customer experience, and gets the right things done.

A typical day on our team involves collaborating with other engineers, deploying software through our large automated systems, and operationally supporting newly deployed software. You will seek new approaches to automate fixes for operational issues, use AWS services to solve design problems, and engage other internal teams to integrate your applications with theirs.

Base salary range for this position is  –  USD annually. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
