Software Development Engineer II, Foundational Security Services

As a Software Development Engineer II in the Amazon Foundational Security Services (AFSS) organization at AWS, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of AWS’s security and foundational infrastructure. We provide the critical infrastructure that powers Amazon's vast range of services, enabling them to deliver for customers across the globe.

• Maintain robust and innovative solutions for the team, working on complex challenges in both existing and new development initiatives, focusing on areas with ambiguity.
• Design and develop software systems that are secure, maintainable, scalable, and extendable.
• Develop an understanding of the business impact of your systems and make responsible trade‑offs between short‑term operational needs and long‑term business objectives.
• Actively participate in team strategy discussions and contribute to technology decisions.
• Provide technical solutions that meet current needs while considering future sustainability, promoting simplicity and ease of maintainability.
• Collaborate with team members, encouraging best practices and setting standards to improve overall quality.
• Build consensus and find the best path forward when differing viewpoints arise.

• Own configuration management services that provision and manage security and performance configurations for a large fleet of Linux hosts.
• Apply system design, software development, operational excellence, hard prioritization, and sound decision making to solve hard problems correctly.

• 3+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience.
• 3+ years of non‑internship design or architecture experience (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems.
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

• 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
• Awareness of Identity and Access management systems.
