Snap Inc is a technology company focused on visual communication. We operate Snapchat and related services. We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join the Growth Notifications team.

Growth Notifications drive business metrics such as DAU/MAU, story views, and engagement through timely, personalized nudges across app push, email, sms, and other channels. The role designs, builds, and operates backend services that serve hundreds of millions of users while maintaining reliability, observability, and cost efficiency.

• Design, implement, and operate highly available backend services for Snap’s growth notification platform.
• Own end‑to‑end architecture with a focus on reliability, observability, cost efficiency, and long‑term retention impact.
• Lead technical direction: define multi‑quarter roadmaps, make high‑quality architectural decisions, and drive large‑ambiguous projects from concept to launch and iteration.
• Collaborate across teams to integrate upstream signals and downstream use cases into a coherent, scalable platform.
• Advocate best practices in distributed systems, including SLIs/SLOs, incident management, cost management, and safe, iterative delivery.
• Mentor and uplift engineers, provide clear technical guidance, and create structures to improve team effectiveness.

• Experience designing, building, and operating backend services or distributed systems at significant scale.
• Proven track record of owning highly‑available, mission‑critical systems with on‑call participation and incident response.
• Ability to set technical vision and lead cross‑functional initiatives over multiple quarters.
• Strong foundation in system design (APIs, data models, storage, pub/sub, queues, workflow orchestration) and performance/latency optimization.
• Deep experience with observability (metrics, logging, tracing, dashboards) and using data to debug, harden, and evolve large‑scale systems.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills across Product, DS, ML, Design, and other engineering teams.
• Ability to mentor and provide clear technical guidance.

• 9+ years of post‑Bachelor’s software development experience; or Master’s degree + 8+ years; or PhD + 5+ years.
• Track record of building and operating reliable, scalable services in cloud technologies with a focus on observability, cost efficiency, and incident response.

• Experience with Java, Go, C++, or Python.

  SQL stores, caches (Memcache/Redis) and cloud services (GCP, AWS, or similar).
• Experience with pub/sub and task‑queue systems (Kafka, Google Pub/Sub, Cloud Tasks, or internal equivalents) in high‑throughput environments.
• Experience with notification, messaging, growth, or experimentation platforms, including ranking, targeting, and A/B testing at scale.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical strategy for a team or domain, influencing architecture, reliability, and long‑term roadmaps across multiple teams.

Salary ranges are based on pay zone and may be modified in the future:

• Zone A (CA, WA, NYC): $229,000‑$343,000 annually.
• Zone B: $218,000‑$326,000 annually.
• Zone C: $195,000‑$292,000 annually.

Position is eligible for equity in the form of RSUs.
