King County Metro Transit's Rail Division is looking for dependable, detail-oriented
Rail Laborers to be a contributing member of the Track, ROW and Structures Maintenance team. The selected candidate will perform a wide variety of maintenance and equipment operation duties not associated with journey-level work.

Our ideal candidate has experience working in a dynamic environment using all manner of powered tools and small/large equipment as well as assisting trades related to the construction and maintenance of railroad track and structures, or the construction or maintenance of any and all types of infrastructure.

This position is considered safety sensitive. Applicants for these positions are required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and subsequent to commencement of employment, will be subject to random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return to duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing in compliance with Federal DOT alcohol and controlled substance testing program protocols.

This position is open to all qualified applicants, internal and external. This recruitment will fill multiple vacancies and will be used to establish an eligibility list to fill future career service vacancies, Term-Limited Temporary (TLT), or Special Duty Assignments (SDA) that may occur over the next twelve months, to be used at the discretion of the hiring authority.

Work Schedule

This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible. The work week is normally 40 hours. You may work a schedule of 5/8s or 4/10s on day, swing or graveyard shift. Schedules are determined on a seniority-based pick system. Per the union contract shift differential is paid to those working second and third shifts.

Shift pay is 5% for second shift and 7.5% for third shift, on top of hourly pay.

Current Pay Information

Day Shift: $28.39 - $40.55 per hour | Swing Shift: $29.81 - $42.58 per hour | Graveyard: $30.52 - $43.59 per hour

Work Location

Employees may work at the Operations and Maintenance Facility (OMF) Central facility at 3407 Airport Way S, Seattle WA 98134, the OMF East facility at th Ave NE Bellevue WA 98005, or at other locations as required by business needs. Rail Laborer you will:

  • Assist in the performance of a wide range of maintenance activities associated with operating and maintaining a Transit Light Rail System.
  • Assist journey-level workers who perform journey level track maintenance, inspections and repairs.
