Position: Advisor - Marching Band Percussion (BHS)

Marching Band Percussion Coach (BHS)

Function:
To assume the responsibility for directing and supervising appropriate activities such as practice sessions, games, performances, parades, pep rallies and school events and meetings. Directly responsible to the Principal, Fine Arts Department Coordinator and Marching Band Director.

Bellingham High School

Duties:

Works in a positive manner with the Marching Band Director to determine performance standards required for percussion section members.

Works with the Marching Band Director to select and develop percussion fundamental exercises, rudiments and literature for performances such as cadences, grooves and drumline featured selections.

Encourages excellence in the performance level of all band students through individual and small group practice sessions, application of sound music theory and technique, and positive instructional techniques.

Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior, to provide an orderly productive environment for all band related activities.

Should be present at least 15 minutes before students report for a practice or performance to supervise students and prepare for rehearsal.

Maintain necessary attendance records and paperwork.

Must attend marching percussion practice sessions, marching band rehearsals and performances including but not limited to:
August rehearsals, Fall marching band rehearsals, Fall marching band performances at football games, Bellingham Memorial Parade on the Sunday before Memorial Day (Sunday, May 17, 2026) and other dates as listed in the Marching Band Handbook.

Assume responsibility for the facility or area in which assigned activity is conducted at all times students are present.

Maintain percussion equipment and instruments, assist with fitting drum harnesses, tuning of marching drums, mallets and sticks.

Assist the Marching Band Director and Color Guard coaches with shows and performances.

Completes a post-season summary and report for reflection and goal setting for the future.

Adheres to the adopted policies of the Bellingham School Committee.

Experience:

Preferably a member of the High School teaching staff.

Experience and background in music and marching techniques.

Experience as a percussionist in a variety of styles and fundamental percussion techniques.

Qualifications:

Dedication to the service of youth.

Demonstrated ability to relate favorably with students.
