Reports To: Building Principal

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the teacher develops students' skills and competence in English and the ability to problem‑solve in a wide variety of settings.

• Develops and administers an English curriculum consistent with district goals and objectives.
• Promotes a safe and conducive classroom environment for individualized and small‑group instruction and learning.
• Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students.
• Guides the learning process toward the achievement of district curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons, units and projects.
• Maintains accurate record‑keeping, grading and attendance records as required.
• Engages in ongoing professional growth that satisfies district requirements and personal development goals.
• Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and administers standardized tests in accordance with district and state testing requirements.
• Applies current teaching methods, educational pedagogy and differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
• Assumes responsibility for related duties assigned by the building principal.
• Adheres to policies adopted by the Bellingham School Committee.

• Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level or discipline is preferred.

• MA DESE English Licensure (Grades 5‑12) required.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
• Master’s degree preferred.

• Citizenship, residency or work visa required.

Required physical capability to escort students during practice drills or emergencies in a safe and timely manner. Must be able to move around the classroom and bend, sit or stand frequently.
