Salary: Per BTA Contract
Function: Under the direction of the Building Principal and Fine Arts Department Coordinator, the Art Teacher will teach a variety of art courses as part of the comprehensive visual arts curriculum.
DUTIES:
- Establish clear objectives for all units, daily lessons, and projects and effectively communicate these objectives to students both verbally and virtually on Google Classroom.
- Utilize the Bellingham High School Fine Arts curriculum to design and implement lesson plans that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students and employ a variety of instructional techniques.
- Hold office hours for students and parents for education‑related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested.
- Attend monthly staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Teach and implement lessons and curriculum based on the Massachusetts State Fine Arts & Visual Arts Standards and Bellingham Curriculum Guides.
- Teach art courses that may include 8th Grade Art, Ceramics, Painting, Art I‑IV, Graphic Design, Animation, Photography and more. Specific teaching assignments to be determined based on the master schedule, department needs and BTA contract. Teaching assignments and schedules may vary from year to year with the high school master schedule and course offerings.
- Work collaboratively with other art staff to develop and maintain a comprehensive art curriculum, supplies and equipment and resources.
- Create and foster an inclusive and culturally sensitive classroom environment that is supportive of all students’ academic and social development.
- Assess students’ academic growth, keep appropriate records and prepare progress/academic reports including special education/IEP/504/RTI/SEL progress reports as needed and as required by law, district and school policies and procedures.
- Communicate regularly with students/parents/families for school and academic purposes.
- Work collaboratively with the staff at the Memorial School (grades 4‑7) and elementary schools (K‑3) to align curriculum, program offerings and facilitate transitions within the K‑12 visual art program.
- Engage in regular professional development that will enhance, contribute to and further develop the fine arts program, pedagogical practices and school goals.
- Assume responsibility for duties that may be assigned by the building principal.
- Adhere to the procedures and policies as adopted by the Bellingham School Committee.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience teaching art courses.
- Experience working with students in a school setting.
- MA DESE Licensure Required in Visual Art:
General – All Levels or Grades 5 - 12.
