Title: Building Substitute (One Year Only)

Location: DiPietro Elementary School (2 Openings)

Position Summary: The building substitute position will be a one year position for the  school year. The building substitute will be directed to the open positions where coverage is needed as they arrive at the building each day.

• Assume responsibility for instructing classes when a teacher is absent.
• Maintain appropriate records including attendance.
• Fulfill necessary clerical work required to maintain student records for a teacher who is absent.
• Implement substitute lesson plans for absent teachers based on the lesson plans outlined by the full-time teacher or at times may be required to create lesson plans that meet the learning objective of the class.
• Review homework and classwork and be able to correct student errors and/or provide feedback.
• Provide guidance to students where applicable.
• Follow all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.
• Oversee pupil behavior in class and surrounding areas and maintain normal classroom routines and discipline within the classroom.
• Maintain appropriate boundaries with students, staff, and parents.
• Adheres to the adopted policies of the Bellingham School Committee.
• Foster a positive relationship with students and staff.
• Other duties as assigned by the Principal.

• Must be a person of professional and personal integrity.
• A high degree of patience and tact in dealing with the general public, parents, teachers, administrators, prospective teachers and other personnel.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university, preferred.
• Massachusetts DESE teacher license, preferred.

Salary: $110 per day

You are required to be physically capable of escorting students from the building in case of a practice drill or emergency situation in a safe and timely fashion. Must be able to move about the classroom and have the ability to bend, sit, or stand frequently.
