Job DescriptionTITLE: Building Substitute (One Year Only)
LOCATION: Stall Brook Elementary School (2 Openings)
POSITION SUMMARY: The building substitute position will be a one‑year only position for the 2026‑2027 school year. The building substitute will be directed to the open positions where coverage is needed as they arrive at the building each day.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Assume responsibility for instructing classes when a teacher is absent.
- Maintain appropriate records including attendance.
- Fulfill necessary clerical work required to maintain student records for a teacher who is absent.
- Implement substitute lesson plans for absent teachers based on the lesson plans outlined by the full‑time teacher or create lesson plans that meet the learning objective of the class.
- Review homework and classwork, correct student errors, and provide feedback.
- Provide guidance to students where applicable.
- Follow all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject.
- Oversee pupil behavior, maintain normal classroom routines and discipline.
- Maintain appropriate boundaries with students, staff, and parents.
- Adhere to the adopted policies of the Bellingham School Committee.
- Foster a positive relationship with students and staff.
- Other duties as assigned by the Principal.
- Professional and personal integrity.
- High degree of patience and tact in dealing with the general public, parents, teachers, administrators, prospective teachers, and other personnel.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university, preferred.
- Massachusetts DESE teacher license, preferred.
$110/day
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONSRequired to be physically capable of escorting students from the building in case of a practice drill or emergency situation. Must be able to move about the classroom and have the ability to bend, sit, or stand frequently.
