Building Substitute (One Year Only)
The building substitute position will be a one year only position for the school year. The building substitute will be directed to the open positions where coverage is needed as they arrive at the building each day.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Substituting for teachers when they are absent.
- Maintaining appropriate records including attendance.
- Fulfilling necessary clerical work required to maintain student records for a teacher who is absent.
- Implementing substitute lesson plans for absent teachers based on the lesson plans outlined by the full-time teacher or at times may be required to create lesson plans that meet the learning objective of the class.
- Reviewing homework and classwork and being able to correct student errors and/or provide feedback.
- Maintaining proper classroom management.
- Providing guidance to students where applicable.
- Following all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.
- Overseeing pupil behavior in class and surrounding areas and maintaining normal classroom routines and discipline within the classroom.
- Maintaining appropriate boundaries with students, staff, and parents.
- Adhering to the adopted policies of the Bellingham School Committee.
- Fostering a positive relationship with students and staff.
- Other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Skills and abilities
required include:
- Professional and personal integrity.
- A high degree of patience and tact in dealing with the general public, parents, teachers, administrators, prospective teachers and other personnel.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
Certificates, licenses, and/or degree requirements include:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university, preferred.
- Massachusetts DESE teacher license, preferred.
Salary: $110/day
Physical working conditions include:
- Being physically capable of escorting students from the building in case of a practice drill or emergency situation in a safe and timely fashion.
- Ability to move about the classroom and have the ability to bend, sit or stand frequently.
