Title: ELA Tutor (19.5 hours) – 1 year only Bellingham Memorial School

POSITION SUMMARY:

To provide small group, in-class and out-of-class instruction in English Language Arts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Working with the Literacy specialist and classroom teacher to provide a rigorous, small group.
  • ELA content, strategies, and skills instruction in-class and out-of-class including in-person, virtual and remote learning models.
  • Administer and document formal, informal and progress monitoring assessments.
  • Meet routinely with the Intervention team using data to discuss students’ progress and needs.
  • Responsible for creating and updating RTI plans and reports.
  • Attend and actively engage in all professional development, data analysis, planning, and parent meetings.
  • Willingness to become involved in the academic and social aspects of school life to support student success, school spirit, and school climate and culture.
  • Engage in a continuous cycle of feedback and improvement regarding instruction, planning, and classroom culture.
  • Evaluate and recommend materials and programs beneficial for the intervention program.
  • Incorporates technology when appropriate in tutoring sessions.
  • Adheres to the adopted policies of the Bellingham School Committee.
  • Foster a positive relationship with students, staff, and family.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal.
SKILLS/ABILITY
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Google classroom, Google meet, and iReady helpful.
  • Understanding of or experience using standardized reading programs including LLI, Soar to Success, Just Words/Wilson preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES and/or DEGREE REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience teaching ELA at 4-7 levels per the Massachusetts Frameworks preferred.
  • Experience with BAS, Cloze, TOSWRF, and Running Records is helpful.
  • Completed at least two years of study at an institute of higher education, obtained at least an associate degree or meet a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate knowledge of, and ability to assist in instruction ELA.

SALARY: $30/hour

CLASSIFICATION:
Non-Union

PHYSICAL

WORKING CONDITIONS:

You are required to be physically capable of escorting students from the building in case of a practice drill or emergency situation in a safe and timely fashion.

Must be able to move about the classroom and have the ability to bend, sit or stand frequently.

REPORTS TO:
Building Principal or Designee
