Title I Reading/ELA Tutor - Anticipated Bellingham Memorial

Bellingham Public Schools – Bellingham Memorial School (Grades 4‑7), Bellingham, Massachusetts

Position:
Title I Reading / English Language Arts Tutor – one‑year appointment, up to 19.5 hours per week (subject to available grant funding)

Position Summary:

Provide small‑group, in‑class and out‑of‑class instruction in Reading/ELA.

Duties
  • Assess, document, and instruct students according to diagnosed needs in English Language Arts and Reading.
  • Instruct students in ELA/Reading content, strategies, and skills.
  • Document student progress toward improving their MCAS performance.
  • Administer Reading assessments.
  • Attend Title I staff meetings and Title I parent meetings/workshops as necessary.
  • Responsible for creating progress reports, assisting with student assessments, maintaining student data, and supporting the Title I Reading/ELA Lead Teacher as needed.
  • Evaluate and suggest appropriate materials, programs, and apps needed for the Title I school‑wide program.
  • Incorporate available technology (e.g., iPads) in tutoring sessions and maintain the safety of that technology.
  • Qualifications
    • Experience teaching Reading or English at the K‑6 level in accordance with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks (preferred).
    • Understanding or experience using rubrics and standards‑based units of instruction (preferred).
    • Experience with DIBELS, UFLI, TOSWRF, and Running Records is helpful.
    • Completed at least two years of study at a post‑secondary institution, holding at least an associate degree, or meeting a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrating knowledge and instructional ability in Reading or Writing readiness.

    $30 per hour, up to 19.5 hours per week (subject to grant funding).
