Position: Fiscal Analyst 2

Western Washington University invites applications for the Fiscal Analyst 2 position in the Accounting Services Department.

About the Position

The Fiscal Analyst 2 plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of the University’s financial operations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing general ledger processing within the Banner ERP system, including reviewing and posting journal vouchers and performing fiscal period close activities.
  • Generating and distributing internal financial reports to campus financial managers to support decision‑making.
  • Creating and maintaining vendor records for timely purchasing and payment processes, assisting campus departments with vendor setup and compliance queries.
  • Managing year‑end tax reporting: preparing and issuing IRS Forms 1099‑NEC, 1099‑MISC, and 1042 for the University, University Advancement, and Alumni offices.
  • Preparing monthly Sales and Use Tax returns, quarterly City of Bellingham Admissions Tax filings, and quarterly State Labor & Industries and unemployment reports.
  • Supporting various annual and ad hoc financial tasks, projects, and reporting as needed.

Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to apply accounting principles and regulatory requirements are essential. Effective communication with diverse stakeholders and alignment with inclusive workplace values is expected.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with 18 quarter or 12 semester hours in accounting, auditing, or closely related field and 1–2 years of relevant professional experience or equivalent education/experience.
  • Two years of experience working with general ledger accounting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in applying basic accounting principles.
  • High level of accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying accounting concepts to non‑accountants.
  • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds as part of an inclusive team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in fund accounting and/or accounting for colleges and universities.
  • Experience with month‑ and year‑end GL accounting close functions with an EFP accounting system.
  • Experience with vendor setup and 1099 reporting.
  • Experience with Washington State sales and use tax reporting.
  • Knowledge of the Ellucian Banner System.
Conditions of Employment

All employees must comply with the University’s Immunization policies, including Rubeola (Measles) immunity proof within 60 days of hire. The role is covered by the bargaining unit PT under the collective bargaining agreement with Public School Employees of WWU.

Compensation

Salary: $4,678 – $6,290 per month, depending on qualifications and experience.
