Exciting opportunity for a Revenue Accounting Manager to provide leadership in revenue recognition, project accounting, and financial analysis for a stable and growing construction firm. This position reports to the Controller and will work closely with Project Managers, Operations, and Finance leadership in a highly collaborative environment. This individual will be responsible for overseeing revenue recognition across complex, long-term projects, while ensuring compliance with ASC 606 and percentage-of-completion accounting standards.

The role offers exposure to forecasting, project profitability analysis, process improvement initiatives, and team leadership while supporting month-end close, financial reporting, and audit requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Own the month-end and quarter-end revenue recognition process for construction projects, ensuring compliance with ASC 606 and percentage-of-completion (POC) accounting standards.
  • Partner with Project Managers to review job cost budgets, estimated costs to complete, and billing schedules to ensure accurate revenue and margin reporting.
  • Lead forecasting of job costs across active projects, updating estimates-to-complete and identifying cost trends that may impact revenue and profitability.
  • Manage and mentor a growing team of 4-5 Project Accountants, ensuring consistent job cost tracking, timely revenue recognition, and alignment between project-level accounting and overall financial reporting.
  • Prepare and analyze Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules, identifying over-billings and under-billings and reconciling balances to the general ledger.
  • Review and approve project-level revenue entries, change orders, and contract modifications for appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Monitor project profitability and proactively identify variances, cost overruns, and schedule delays that may impact financial results.
  • Collaborate with the Project Accounting and Billing teams to ensure invoicing aligns with contractual terms and recognized revenue.
  • Support the Financial Controller during month-end close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and revenue-related variance analysis.
  • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation related to revenue recognition and assist external auditors during annual audits and reviews.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance internal controls, policies, and procedures related to revenue recognition and project accounting.
  • Identify opportunities to improve revenue reporting processes, WIP accuracy, and communication between Finance, Operations, and Project Management teams.
  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting to Finance leadership.
  • Assist in training, coaching, and developing junior accounting and project accounting staff.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or CPA candidate strongly preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, with significant exposure to construction, engineering, or project-based revenue recognition environments.
  • 2+ years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of ASC 606 revenue recognition guidance and percentage-of-completion accounting methodologies.
  • Experience preparing, analyzing, and managing Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules.
  • Proven ability to forecast job costs and manage estimates-to-complete across multiple active projects.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial modeling.
  • Experience with construction ERP systems such as Sage 300 CRE, Procore, Viewpoint, Foundation, or similar platforms.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Project Managers, Operations, and Finance leadership in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, and developing Project Accountants or accounting staff.
  • Public accounting experience in audit or advisory services is a plus.
