SUMMARYThis position works under the direction of the Assistant Director of Communications to identify, develop, and produce photos, video, and other multimedia content for Tacoma Public Schools' internal and external audiences. The position develops compelling visual stories showcasing Tacoma Public Schools students, staff, programs, and community partners in support of the District's communication, marketing, and branding strategies. Provides technical leadership for live streaming public meetings and the operation of KTPS television programming.
ESSENTIALJOB FUNCTIONS
Office environment; experiences frequent interruptions; experiences prolonged visual concentration and exposure to video display; required to deal with a variety of people in varied situations; will travel to district and other sites; experiences inflexible deadlines; required to work flexible and/or extended hours.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience
Associate’s degree in communication, journalism or marketing, or a related field involving video, photography, and social media content creation; three years of professional experience in a content creation role.
Allowable SubstitutionEquivalent combinations of experience and education may be evaluated by the Human Resources department for comparability.
Licenses/Special RequirementsValid Washington State driver’s license, automotive insurance, and personal vehicle are necessary to perform the work of this position.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of strategic visual storytelling and multimedia communication principles.
- Skill in independently identifying, developing, and prioritizing multimedia stories aligned with District priorities.
- Ability to advise administrators on multimedia communication approaches and production techniques.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment in planning and executing multimedia projects with district wide visibility.
- Ability to provide technical leadership and consultation related to multimedia production.
- Knowledge of video, still photography and POV cameras.
- Knowledge of studio lighting
- Knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, and English usage
- Knowledge of both Macintosh and PC computer platforms
- Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud. In particular:
Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Bridge - Knowledge of motion graphics and After Effects
- Experience working in public education, government, or non‑profits
- Skill in effective problem solving and decision making
- Skills in interviewing and interpersonal communications
- Ability to concentrate on detail and be precise
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and meet deadlines
