About the Department

The College of Fine and Performing Arts and the Theatre and Dance Department support Western's mission, which states that together with our students, staff, and faculty, we are committed to making a positive impact in the state and the world with a shared focus on academic excellence and inclusive achievement. We encourage applications from women, people of color, people with disabilities, veterans, and other candidates from underrepresented backgrounds and with diverse experiences interested in this opportunity.

The Department of Theatre and Dance serves 200 undergraduate majors annually and offers a BA in Theatre, a BA and BFA in Dance, as well as minors in both majors. Dance majors at WWU are celebrated for their individuality and varied interests within the field of dance and beyond, and are challenged to discover their own artistic voice as performer, choreographer, and scholar.

About

the Position

The Dance Program maintains a vacancy pool of qualified persons interested in temporary teaching positions. In anticipation of possible openings throughout the academic year and summer sessions, applications are accepted continuously for temporary non-tenure track teaching positions on a part-time basis with occasional opportunities for temporary, full-time appointments. Positions may become available at any time and are typically filled on a quarterly basis.

The Department, the College and the University value teaching and we expect you to be an exemplary teacher; to be current in your discipline; to engage students actively in their own learning and to maintain high standards regarding course content. It is our aim to familiarize students with the historical and cultural dimensions of dance, including the works and philosophies of leading dancers and choreographers both in the past and present.

We teach our students to understand and evaluate contemporary thinking about dance and related arts and to make informed assessments regarding quality works of dance. Our goal is to teach a physical and intellectual understanding of the language of movement art.
