About the Department

The RN-to-BSN program was established in 2013 and received a full, 10-year reaccreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) in June 2020. In early 2022, Western's nursing program gained support from the Washington legislature, securing annual state funding for the RN-to-BSN program and the new Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) programs, which offer two specialty tracks:
Nursing Leadership & Administration and Nursing Education.

Our mission is to support nurses in our region and across the state, particularly in underserved areas, who wish to advance their professional education and contribute to the well-being of communities within a rapidly evolving healthcare system. The hybrid nursing program is tailored for nurses living far from the Bellingham main campus, allowing them to participate through online and in-person learning.

We collaborate with community colleges to strengthen educational pathways and provide on-site practical experiences at diverse healthcare facilities throughout Washington State.

Woodring College of Education (WCE) supports Western's mission and is committed to making a positive impact in the state and the world with a shared focus on academic excellence and inclusive achievement. We encourage applications from women, people of color, people with disabilities, veterans, and other candidates from underrepresented backgrounds with diverse experiences interested in this opportunity. The WCE vision statement identifies the college as dedicated to fostering community relationships and a culture of learning that advances knowledge, embraces diversity, and promotes social justice.

We welcome applications from diverse applicants.
