We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full‑time and part‑time vacancies that may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Responsibilities

Support the Department's objective of teaching and learning for students with special needs. Assist in the implementation of specialised education programs such as occupational therapy, speech therapy and physiotherapy, ensuring that students receive the best possible education. Work closely with teachers to support the delivery of planned education programs using explicit teaching and evidence-based instructional strategies aligned with whole‑school approaches to improving literacy and numeracy outcomes.

Assist in implementing individual and small‑group programs, including the use of computers and digital technologies, and provide feedback to support the ongoing evaluation of education and therapy programmes. Build genuine, positive relationships with students. Support the implementation of the school's Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) framework, along with trauma‑informed practices and cultural awareness, contributing to a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

Qualifications

& Eligibility
  • Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
  • Valid Working With Children Check before starting.
  • Collaborative, proactive and committed to ongoing professional growth, with strong teamwork skills in evaluating educational programmes.
  • Good written and oral communication skills and ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals.
  • Strong interpersonal and organisational skills to assist in the delivery and development of effective education programmes and to provide timely feedback to teachers or psychologists.
  • Knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents and ability to assist with the general health and well‑being of students.
  • Experience or ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programmes, including special education and, where required, occupational and/or physiotherapy programmes.
