Lead Wilderness Medicine Instructor

Backcountry Medical Guides (BMG) is hiring Lead Wilderness Medicine Instructors to independently lead courses in environments where wilderness medicine isn't theoretical—it's essential. This role is for seasoned clinicians and educators who are ready to lead from day one. You'll run courses from start to finish-managing safety, pacing, delivery, and student experience-with the kind of autonomy that comes from being trusted to do it right.

BMG is built by people who practice medicine in the real world, and who care deeply about teaching it well. Our courses are hands‑on, scenario‑driven, and set in the environments where these trainings matter: alpine ridge lines, river corridors, and landscapes where the nearest ambulance is measured in hours, not minutes. You'll teach alongside clinicians and guides who've earned their skills the hard way—people who value solid judgment, clear communication, and staying humble when the stakes are high.

They're out there doing incredible things. Leading expeditions, guiding trips, patrolling ski areas, working in remote communities. They come to us because they need to be ready when help isn't close  they leave our courses sharper, more confident, and genuinely capable of handling the situations that matter most. You could teach somewhere else—maybe even for better pay. But instructors stick with BMG because the work is deeply meaningful, the teaching is challenging in the best way, and honestly?

Most BMG courses take place in Washington and California, with frequent programs in the Seattle area, Bellingham, and the Bay Area. We prioritize hiring instructors who live in Washington or California.

• Are calm, organized, & professional in dynamic environments
• Live in Washington or California

This is a contract-based role with competitive pay depending on course length and responsibility, flexible scheduling, local travel reimbursement, and opportunities for continued leadership and specialty courses.
