Visiting Assistant Professor in Environmental Science
The Department of Environmental Sciences at Western Washington University invites applications for a 9‑month Visiting Assistant Professor for the academic year September 16, 2026 through June 15, 2027. The role focuses on teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, advising, and mentoring. Expected teaching load: six 10‑week courses per year (two per quarter). Additional duties include advising students on course choices and mentoring undergraduate thesis projects.
Roles & Responsibilities- Teach up to six undergraduate and graduate courses in General Ecology, Watershed Biogeochemistry, Environmental Sampling, Plant and Soil Interactions, Biostatistics (r‑based), or related disciplines.
- Adopt equitable and inclusive teaching practices to foster learning for all students.
- Advise students on course selection and mentor undergraduate thesis projects.
- Participate in departmental meetings and university service as appropriate.
- PhD or ABD in environmental science or a closely related field at the time of application.
- Demonstrated ability or potential to teach courses in General Ecology, Watershed Biogeochemistry, Biostatistics, or Plant and Soil Interactions.
- Commitment to advising and mentoring undergraduate students.
- Experience with building student cohorts or community building.
- Post‑doctoral fellowship or additional professional experience.
All employees must comply with the university’s immunization policies, including proof of Rubeola (measles) immunity within 60 days of hire. Background checks and employment‑eligibility verification are required.
Salary and BenefitsAnnual salary: $64,000 – $68,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
