Overview

The Unit Manager for the Centers for Student Access, Community, and Intercultural Engagement (The Centers) is a critical member of The Centers team. The Unit Manager provides administrative and programmatic support for The Centers and the departments within it: the Office of Multicultural Student Services (MSS), LGBTQ+ Western, and the Disability Access Center (DAC). This position primarily supports LGBTQ+ Western and supervises some student staff.

This is a project-employment position ending no later than June 30, 2027.

Responsibilities

The Unit Manager designs and delivers co-curricular programming and services supporting the self-determination, well-being, and holistic success of students, including students who hold multiple marginalized identities. Through development and delivery of programs, administrative and fiscal support, outreach, and broad advisement, the position supports positive identity development and builds intercultural understanding for Western students. The Unit Manager may supervise or co-supervise student staff and collaborate closely with professional staff from Multicultural Student Services.

The Centers Unit Manager is a one-two year project position that helps maintain services, programs, and events within The Centers for Student Access, Community, and Intercultural Engagement.

The Unit Manager will support some duties of the LGBTQ+ Western department and collaborate with staff from MSS. This role is supervised by the LGBTQ+ Director. The State HR Classification for this position is Program Specialist 2.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in any Field
  • Three (3) years of professional experience working in programs related to access, diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Experience effectively advising students and/or young adult leaders of programs, clubs, or organizations to support student leadership development, including demonstrated success providing culturally responsive advising services to LGBTQ+ and/or BIPOC students
  • Experience designing and delivering programming and training that advances positive identity development and builds leadership skills for students who hold multiple marginalized identities
  • Demonstrated ability to engage students of diverse identities in intercultural learning and dialogue
  • Successful experience supervising student employees
  • Strong small and large group facilitation skills and written communication skills
  • Experience developing and managing budgets
  • Knowledge of student leadership and student development theories and their applications in practice
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills and the ability to make decisions aligned with organizational mission and goals
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a field related to job responsibilities such as Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Ethnic or Cultural Studies, Social Services, etc.
  • Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., Student Affairs Administration, Education, Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Ethnic or Cultural Studies, Social Services, or Psychology). 2+ additional years of experience may be considered in replacement of a master’s degree
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in LGBTQ+, multicultural services, or other identity-based resource centers in higher education
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in strategic assessment of programs, services, and/or student learning outcomes
  • Fluency in Spanish or another second language (other than English)

Compensation

Salary: $4,342 - $5,836/month depending on qualifications and experience

This position is part of bargaining unit PTE and is covered by the collective bargaining agreement with Public School Employees of WWU
