General Description Of Work

Position Title:

9 month, Recurring, Intercultural Services Coordinator

Classification: AFT Staff

FTE: 1.0 on a 9 month cyclic contract

Schedule:

40 hours/week, Monday-Friday 8 AM-5 PM. September 16-June 15 annually. Occasional evening work may be required and scheduled in advance.

Job Summary

This Program Coordinator supports student leadership development, student-driven civic engagement, and campus engagement opportunities that promote the wellbeing, success, and advancement of Whatcom Community College's diverse student population. Working closely with the Intercultural Services team, student leaders, and campus partners, the Program Coordinator develops, coordinates, and facilitates innovative co-curricular and extracurricular programs, student organizations, service-learning opportunities, and student-led conferences that foster identity development, civic responsibility, and meaningful connections across the college community.

The Program Coordinator ensures that all programs are collaborative, inclusive, and aligned with the college's commitment to supporting the engagement, growth, and success of diverse learners.

Reporting Structure/Supervisory Relationship
  • This position reports to the Director for Student Engagement.
Responsibilities Essential Functions
  • Supports the Simpson Intercultural Center staff, Associated Students of Whatcom Community College (ASWCC), student unions, associations, and clubs in advancing student engagement, leadership development, and campus involvement.
  • Plans, coordinates, implements, and evaluates Simpson Intercultural Center programs, services, and events, including student orientations, peer mentoring, leadership development opportunities, student-led conferences, workshops, and meetings, in collaboration with the Director and Associate Director.
  • Advises and supports student leaders in planning programs, achieving learning outcomes, documenting student engagement, and assessing program effectiveness.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative partnerships with college departments, faculty, staff, students, and community organizations to implement high-impact student engagement, civic engagement, and intercultural learning opportunities.
  • Supports the Associate Director of Intercultural Services in coordinating the daily operations of the Simpson Intercultural Center and ensuring a welcoming, inclusive, and student-centered environment.
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with campus and community stakeholders to expand opportunities for student learning, leadership development, and intercultural engagement.
  • Prepares, develops, and manages written communications and promotional materials for the Simpson Intercultural Center, including website content, social media, newsletters, marketing materials, and press releases, in collaboration with Marketing & Communications and other college departments, as appropriate.
