Director, Instrumentation and Control Engineer
Sedron Technologies is hiring a talented Director of Instrumentation & Controls in the Pacific Northwest! (Bellingham or Sedro Woolley, WA)
Founded in 2014 and headquartered in the Pacific Northwest, Sedron Technologies designs, manufactures, installs, and operates advanced water and waste upcycling technologies. With a focus on transforming the paradigm from waste processing to resource recovery, Sedron Technologies works with municipal, agricultural, and industrial customers to process their "waste" into climate-smart commodities through environmentally and financially sustainable methods.
The Director of Instrumentation & Controls will spearhead the development, implementation, and optimization of cutting-edge process control systems for Sedron’s advanced resource recovery technologies. With a focus on reliability, efficiency, and industry standards, this role blends expertise in process control automation, instrumentation, and integration. You’ll be at the helm of architecting, designing, and supporting the construction and commissioning of multiple high-impact projects, each worth over $100M, in the dynamic world of industrial process controls and automation.

Because we design, build, commission, and operate our technologies, we are looking for individuals who can meet the following essential functions of the position:
Own Process Equipment Electrical Design & Establish Company Standards
Lead UL 508A compliance, sensors, instrumentation, and VFD integration within skidsEstablish electrical and instrumentation standards to optimize performance and reliabilityDefine power distribution for lower-energy systems like pumps and valvesLead PLC & Controls Development
Oversee coding standards, architecture, Dev Ops, and cybersecurity best practicesAutomate software builds, testing, deployment, and system health monitoringEnsure site reliability and incident response strategiesLead engineers and automation specialists to meet project goalsDevelop training programs to cultivate future engineering leadersFoster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellenceDemonstrate professionalism, strong communication, and the ability to work independently and with teamsSolve complex engineering challenges and deliver high-quality resultsCollaborate Cross-Functionally for Performance & Safety
Work with multiple engineering disciplines during early project stages (FEL-2/FEL-3)Provide scopes of work to ensure efficient and complete designsOversee UL 508A compliance during manufacturingProvide startup and commissioning resources for system readinessCollaborate with commissioning leads to ensure smooth site integrationSupport manufacturing, construction, and commissioning teams for seamless executionOversee Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)
Ensure PLCs and electronics are fully prepared for checkout before deploymentMinimize on-site commissioning by delivering validated, functional systemsEvaluate & Implement Advanced Control Technologies
Select and integrate instrumentation, SCADA, telemetry, and data analysis solutionsTroubleshoot and resolve complex control system issuesMaintain documentation, including control narratives, network architecture, and HMI designEnsure Compliance & Best Practices
Develop and enforce standards for system integration, cybersecurity, and reliabilityEDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation, Mechanical, or a related field15+ years of experience in industrial automation, controls, and instrumentation5+ years of leadership experience managing engineering teams and projectsStrong knowledge of PLC programming, SCADA systems, and industrial networksExperience with process control strategies, including systemization, PID tuning and loop optimizationStrong knowledge of industrial communication protocolsAbility to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneouslyStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
