About the Role
A large electric utility is seeking an experienced Transmission Engineer (Level IV or V) to lead the design, engineering, and execution of high-voltage transmission and substation projects. This role will support capital projects, system reliability initiatives, and modernization efforts across a regional transmission network.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys technical leadership, mentoring, and working on complex power system infrastructure.
Responsibilities:- Lead engineering and design for transmission and substation capital projects.
- Develop technical specifications, standards, and equipment requirements.
- Support transmission planning, design reviews, and project execution.
- Perform engineering analysis using PLS-CADD or similar transmission design software.
- Provide technical guidance to project teams, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Evaluate new technologies and collaborate with equipment manufacturers and vendors.
- Support construction, commissioning, and field engineering activities.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards and regulatory requirements (NERC, FERC, IEEE, NEC, etc.).
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on complex projects.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Engineer IV: 6+ years of transmission engineering experience.
- Engineer V: 10+ years of transmission engineering experience.
- Experience with:
- High-voltage transmission systems
- Substations
- Protective relaying
- SCADA and control systems
- Transformers and circuit breakers
- Proficiency with PLS-CADD (or equivalent transmission design software).
- Strong project management, communication, and technical writing skills.
- Experience working with applicable utility codes and standards.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Experience with utility regulatory compliance and transmission system operations.
- Lead impactful transmission infrastructure projects.
- Work on technically challenging, large-scale utility systems.
- Collaborate with experienced engineering professionals.
