Summary / Objective
The Medical Assistant (MA) is a clinical representative of PPGWNI and is responsible for excellent internal and external customer service. The MA enhances the patient experience and embodies the affiliate’s mission to provide exceptional health care, honest education, and fearless advocacy for all.
Essential Functions- Greet patients and visitors in a positive, warm, caring, friendly manner and proactively work to increase patient satisfaction from first impression.
- Provide excellent customer service by modeling professionalism, respect, and courtesy toward internal and external clients.
- Safeguard the privacy and protected health information of patients in compliance with HIPAA and PPGWNI policies.
- Explain all PPGWNI services, FDA‑approved birth‑control methods, STI transmission and treatments, and non‑directive education on unintended‑pregnancy options, including making referrals based on patient needs.
- Maintain accurate and consistent attention to detail in processing labs, specimen handling, lab equipment, and legible chart documentation; understand practice‑management encounter forms and codes and use them correctly.
- Perform clinical research and peer clinical education and training duties as assigned.
- Adhere to all policy and procedure and remain within scope of practice when providing health services side‑by‑side with a provider, clinician phone consult, telemedicine, or nurse.
- Completing vital monitoring, history intake, rooming client, health education, lab specimen processing (including venous blood and urine), EMR and paper record documentation, post‑procedure lab specimen processing, in‑house lab testing and controls, and assisting providers with in‑office procedures.
- Provide other clinical general duties including opening and setting up the clinical area, supporting clinician needs, promoting quality and efficiency, maintaining lab and clinical care area control, infection control standards, facilitating clinical closure, and communicating inventory needs.
- Assist with medication administration as delegated and supervised (injection or oral) within PPGWNI and State policy.
- Collaborate with the Health Center Manager and clinical management to further clinic goals.
- Communicate positively, hold team members accountable, and foster clinic team spirit.
- Demonstrate annual competency on skill evaluations, proficiency or competency tests, and/or audits.
- Support productivity expectations and compliance standards of the agency.
- Be familiar with clinic emergency procedure and act as Health Center Manager designee when appropriate.
- Understand all pay sources and funding sources and apply them appropriately.
- Adhere to scheduling procedures and perform work as assigned.
- Commit to quality healthcare and excellent customer service in alignment with PPGWNI’s mission.
- Serve as a role model for PPGWNI’s “In This Together” workplace values and service standards.
- Accomplish other duties as assigned.
- Flu/Strep/Hep C/Covid swab collection, telehealth intakes, intramuscular (IM) injections, injection teaching, emergency contraception education, venipuncture, AIC screening, processing and shipping labs, e‑logs, laboratory controls, open/close health center procedures, equipment maintenance log.
- All competencies listed above plus medication injections as directed by clinician.
- Minimum high‑school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Medical Assistant Certified with satisfactory post‑secondary education and Washington State‑approved certification.
- Completion of 7‑hour HIV training and registration approved by Washington State.
- Self‑motivation, ability to multi‑task, strong mental and physical dexterity, and focus with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in standard computer operating systems, office equipment, strong attention to detail, basic and advanced math skills.
- Ability to take direction and complete tasks independently across all clinic areas.
- Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, hearing, and understanding English.
- Flexibility in work schedule, including early morning, evenings, and Saturdays.
