Position SummaryFull‑time community resource navigator position available for our Managed Care Department in Bellingham, WA. The role is to provide information and assistance to individuals seeking health coverage, health care and other local resources that aid them in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The navigator educates eligible individuals on how to navigate health insurance options, public programs, and Sea Mar services and assists with application processes.
The navigator helps newly assigned and high‑risk patients schedule their initial appointment for medical, dental and care management services and participates in intervention strategies that remove barriers that may result in appointment no‑shows. The role also requires meeting all Washington State and Sea Mar testing and certification requirements.
- Pro‑actively aid in increasing public awareness regarding health coverage enrollment opportunities by planning and conducting outreach activities within the community and participating in Sea Mar sponsored and non‑sponsored events.
- Assist in the development and distribution of informational and promotional materials and establish and maintain referral relationships with local organizations, agencies, institutions and businesses as directed by the Managed Care Department.
- Work with uninsured lists from Sea Mar dental, behavioral health and ancillary service sites to advance enrollment of eligible individuals onto health coverage and inform non‑eligible individuals about health care options.
- Assist consumers with online public health coverage and program applications, providing the necessary information for consumers to navigate health plan options and make well‑informed decisions.
- Serve as a service navigator for consumers wishing to establish Sea Mar as their medical home, providing information regarding available services and consumers’ rights and responsibilities.
- Assist high‑risk patients in scheduling a care manager appointment and facilitate processes to ensure they have established care. In a case‑management model, incorporate home visits if necessary to assist patients who fail to keep their initial medical visit by removing impediments and linking them to necessary resources.
- Maintain daily activity records, submit progress reports in a timely manner, and assist in identifying areas for quality improvement and efficiency for the Managed Care Department.
- Identify, monitor and track uninsured individuals and advocate on their behalf regarding barriers to coverage and/or access to health care services.
- Perform all duties in a professional manner, participate in all mandatory state and corporate trainings and meet all competency testing requirements related to health coverage policy changes impacting consumers and/or processes.
- Perform any and all other duties as may be assigned while adhering to all corporate and departmental policies and procedures.
- Good organizational and time‑management skills.
- Good judgment and excellent problem‑solving abilities.
- Professional demeanor at all times and strict confidentiality.
- Proficient public speaking skills.
- Good spelling, grammar and written communication; legible handwriting required.
- Ability to read and interpret complex documents, reports and data.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Self‑motivated, strong work ethic and able to work independently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish required.
- Marketing and sales experience considered a plus.
- AA or BA in Social Services or Business Administration preferred.
- At least 2 years of customer service experience required; preferably in a health care environment. Additional work experience may be substituted for some education.
- Must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR within 90 days of hire date and maintain current BLS CPR throughout employment.
