Part time, 0.6 FTE Day shiftOB Surgical Technologist - Schedule:
7am - 7:30pm - Unit: 10-bed Labor & Delivery unit with 2 OR suites

St. Joseph Medical Center, 253-bed acute care hospital with level II trauma center - Location:

Position DetailsThis position is responsible for assisting the Surgical team during operative procedures by performing a variety of technical duties to primarily assist in responsibility for the preparation and maintenance of the surgical sterile field for the obstetrical operative patient and/or her infant.
Essential Functions- Arrange and inventories sterile set-up for operation and passes items as needed to the surgical team.
- Understand and apply the principles of asepsis. Establish and maintain sterile field and assure team maintains sterile environment.
- Assist in preparation and moving of patients.
- Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes instrumentation. Assists with clean-up and room turnover.
- Assists in vaginal births
- Access computer information as needed, such as preference lists and digital images.
- Maintain unit supplies by requisitioning and receiving supplies then stocking patient rooms and supply areas to meet patient care needs. Inventory control.
- Participates in all safety initiatives. Adheres to programs such as SCIP and SCOAP quality initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology Program or recognized course of training as a Surgical Technologist - Requires:
Minimum of 1 year experience as a Surgical Technologist, prefer experience with obstetrical and gynecologic surgeries - Required:
Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs - Required:
Washington State Surgical Technologist Registration - Required:
Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support Certification - Preferred:
Certified Surgical Technologist
- Well organized, detail oriented and self motivated (Required)
- Ability to coordinate activities and work collaboratively with others (Required)
- Ability to execute detailed procedures with accuracy and precision (Required)
- Basic computer/keyboarding skills including MS Office applications (Required)
- Understanding of operating room protocols (Required)
- Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
- Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
