Psychiatric Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner

Major duties include conducting psychiatric assessments, assessing physical health needs, making appropriate referrals to community physicians, and providing management and administration of medication. The incumbent performs duties such as service coordination for clients, participation with individual treatment teams, conducting comprehensive assessments of psychiatric history, mental status, and diagnosis, physical health and dental health, use of drugs or alcohol, education and employment, social development and functioning, activities of daily living, and family structure and relationships.

Documentation of client progress, participation in staff meetings and treatment planning review meetings, providing medication administration and medical services, organizing and managing the system of getting medication to clients, managing pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, coordinating, scheduling, and administering medical assessments of client physical health, making appropriate referrals to community physicians for further assessment and treatment, and coordinating psychiatric treatment with medical treatment are also part of the role.

Providing ongoing assessment of clients' mental illness symptoms and clients' response to treatment, making appropriate changes in treatment plans to ensure immediate and appropriate interventions are provided in response to changes in mental status or behavior which put clients at risk, providing symptom education to enable clients to identify their mental illness symptoms, providing direct clinical services to clients on an individual, group, or family basis in the office and in community settings to teach behavioral symptom-management techniques to alleviate and manage symptoms not reduced by medication and to promote personal growth and development by assisting clients to adapt to and cope with internal and external stresses, providing individual treatment in the office and community settings in a stage-based treatment model that is non-confrontational, considering interactions of mental illness and substance abuse, and having client-determined goals, assisting and supporting clients to have and effectively use a personal primary care physician, dentist, and other medical specialists as required, and supporting and implementing agency policies and procedures are also included.

Requirements of the position include a master's degree in psychiatric mental health nursing, being licensed as a Washington State Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, carrying American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) certification, at least one year of work experience in an inpatient or outpatient psychiatric setting, attending weekly team meetings, ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing, great attendance, ability to work well with others, ability to accurately complete all tasks as assigned, and maintaining a high level of confidentiality with any and all information acquired.

The Psychiatric Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner functions under the direct supervision of the Medical Director. The Psychiatric Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner relies on training and/or equivalent experience provided by Lifeline Connections and performs duties in accordance with Washington Administrative Codes, Federal regulations governing the confidentiality of consumer files, and Lifeline Connections Policy and Procedure Manual.

Contacts are with members of the treatment team, consumers, significant others of the consumers, administrative, supervisory and clerical personnel, employers, representatives of various community agencies specializing in the treatment of substance use and mental health, related community representatives including lawyers, parole officers, and other court officials. All personal contacts are carried out in accordance with federal and state statues, laws and regulations dealing with the confidentiality of alcohol and drug dependent consumer records.
