Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Part‑Time Associate Veterinarian to join our team at Chuckanut Valley Feline Center in Bellingham, WA. The role supports a flexible schedule while maintaining clinical engagement. You will work alongside a team of experienced veterinarians, technicians, and support staff and will collaborate closely with the Hospital Manager and Regional Director.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive patient exams and medical work‑ups.
  • Communicate and educate clients.
  • Perform diagnostic procedures and surgery.
  • Maintain accurate medical records.
  • Prescribe medications and follow controlled substance protocols.
  • Promote teamwork and staff efficiency.
  • Collaborate with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations.
  • Evaluate and monitor protocols for daily hospital operations from intake to discharge.
  • Attend daily rounds to ensure high standards are upheld.
  • Participate in practice management updates and training at all levels.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Management.
Qualifications (Required)
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Veterinarian degree (DVM or VMD) from an accredited college or university.
  • Current State Veterinary License.
  • DEA registration, obtained and maintained.
  • 1+ years of experience in a veterinary practice.
  • Strong diagnostic and clinical skills.
  • Excellent surgical and dental skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team‑oriented environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to compassionate, high‑quality veterinary care.
  • Effective communication with all members of the Medical and Hospital staff.
  • Client communication skills: elicit information, establish rapport, offer explanations to pet owners.
  • Confidence and reassurance when dealing with stressed, ill, or painful pets.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Physical tasks may include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
  • Clinical knowledge and skill in examining and assessing animals, including cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedic, neurological, and other necessary examinations.
  • Problem‑solving: develop solutions for challenges in managing a high‑quality veterinary hospital.
  • Effective communication of diagnostic and therapeutic options to clients and internal staff.
  • Professionalism: provide and receive constructive criticism, suggestions, and feedback.
  • Business acumen: understand the management and finances of a veterinary hospital practice.
  • Ethics: apply ethical principles in patient care decisions.
  • Commitment to continuing education and facilitating learning for others.
