JOB SUMMARY

The Maintenance Technician contributes to the Port’s operations by primarily performing routine and/or repetitive maintenance tasks related to building maintenance, general maintenance, repair, electrical systems, fabrication, landscape, roadways, marine structures, remodeling and construction duties. This position must be able to operate all types of tools and equipment assigned to the position, work under supervision, and perform a variety of skilled maintenance duties.

ESSENTIAL

FUNCTIONS
  • Troubleshoot problems, collaborate with others, and recommend solutions to reach a successful outcome.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records, including work order completion.
  • Complete required reports to maintain preventative maintenance schedules.
  • May train or direct lower-level employees as assigned.
  • Properly operate basic shop tools and equipment.
  • Use computerized work order system.
  • Understand and follow WISHA and L&I work place safety rules.
  • Monitor/train seasonal staff on basic day-to-day operations such as weeding, watering, mowing, raking, and trash removal.
  • Assists senior staff in all trades as needed.
  • Responds to after-hours call outs as available and as appropriate for the level, such as snow removal or to assist senior staff.
  • May perform duties in one or more of the following areas: electrical, facilities, mechanics, and/or grounds.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Facilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance tasksrelated to construction, alterations and repairs within the Facilities segment of the Maintenance Team.
  • Repairs and alterations to fire sprinkler systems.
  • Assists with repairs, alterations and installation work to buildings, structures, irrigation systems and equipment involving carpentry, painting, masonry, plumbing and other manual building trades.
  • Help with building repairs and other facilities related maintenance.
  • QUALIFICATIONS Required (Level
    2):
    • 1.5 years of construction & repair experience including plumbing, carpentry, concrete, dock and floatrepair, fire sprinkler system maintenance, and operation of a variety of construction equipment.
    Required (Level
    3):
    • 4 years of construction & repair experience including plumbing, carpentry, concrete, dock and floatrepair, fire sprinkler system maintenance, and operation of a variety of construction equipment.
    LICENSES REQUIRED (Level
    2)
    • Valid Washington State driver’s license is required.
    • Ability to secure and maintain valid First Aid and CPR certification.
    • Must be able to obtain SIDA (Security Identification Display Area) and TWIC (Transportation Work Identification Credential) clearances.
    LICENSES REQUIRED (Level
    3)
    • Ability to secure and maintain Flagging, Forklift, and LPG Fueling Certification within 6 months of employment.
    • Ability to secure and maintain CDL, Class A endorsement and Electrical Training Card, Low Voltage.

    LEVEL OF AUTHORITY

    Position is responsible for specified tasks within the department and does not supervise the work of other employees. Position may be responsible for representing the Port to the public on a regular basis.
