Overview

The Residential Life Administrator (RLA) lives on a floor in an undergraduate academic center and serves as a role model, peer counselor, resource and referral person, advocate, policy enforcer, programmer and leader for a diverse group of U.S. and international students, including students from all three degree‑granting campuses (NYU New York, NYU Abu Dhabi, and NYU Shanghai), first‑year students in the Liberal Studies program, and upper‑classmen in the DC Global Leadership Scholars program.

The RLA is expected to support the goals and objectives of NYU Washington, DC and New York University, including an institutional commitment to intercultural learning. Under the supervision of the Residential Life Coordinator and Program Manager for Student Life, the RLA assists in community development, facilitates dialogue around intercultural topics, engages students through programming, and fosters a flourishing community that supports academic and personal growth.

The RLA provides support in emergencies and personal stress situations, documenting and reporting incidents impacting residents’ wellbeing. This is a part‑time (≈ 25 hours per week) live‑in position based in Washington, DC during the academic year (August–May). The RLA must be available in the hall for emergencies and maintain frequent contact with residents. A staff member not on duty who plans to leave the hall for more than 24 hours must notify or obtain permission from the Residential Life Coordinator.

Responsibilities

Live‑in resident advisor duties, emergency response, conflict resolution, community building, programming coordination, and administrative reporting.

Education & Experience
  • Required education:
    Bachelor’s degree. Preferred:
    Enrolled in a Master’s program or Master’s degree.
  • Required experience:

    0–1 year of residential life employment or equivalent combination; experience in community development, student programming, or residential life.
  • Preferred experience:

    Residential Administrator (RA) experience.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Conflict resolution skills and ability to respond quickly in emergencies.
  • Availability for nights, weekends, and 24‑hour shifts as required.
Compensation

Hourly rate: USD $19.00.
