Corrections Specialist 3 (CS3) - Position NX80

Family Offender Sentencing Alternative (FOSA) / Community Parenting Alternative (CPA) Program

Bellingham, WA

The Community Corrections Division has a permanent, full-time Corrections Specialist 3 (CS3) opening available. This position, NX80, is within the Family Offender Sentencing Alternative (FOSA) / Community Parenting Alternative (CPA) program, which is located in Bellingham, WA.

The work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Work hours are determined by unit needs and are at the discretion of the unit supervisor. In accordance with WFSE Section 2 Supplemental DOC Article 4.7 of the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE)  Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), this job opening is available to internal transfer candidates ONLY.

Employees who meet the following criteria may apply:

• You are requesting a transfer under Section 2 Supplemental DOC Article 4.7 of the WFSE CBA.
• You are a permanent DOC employee.
• You currently hold permanent status in the job class being recruited for in this job posting.
• You are currently in a position represented by WFSE.

In addition to the above requirements for WFSE Section 2 Supplemental DOC Article 4.7 transfer requests, this position has the following requirements:

A bachelor's degree from a college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or the US Department of Education

AND

Three (3) years of professional case management
* experience in adult or juvenile corrections or closely related field which includes at least three (3) of the following:

• Making field visits
• Writing reports
• Assessing cases and making recommendations
• Referring people to appropriate resources
• Presenting cases in court/hearings

AND

One (1) year experience working collaboratively with other agencies, providers, or local city governments in providing case management that includes direct family re-unification services or family-based treatment/counseling. This experience may have been acquired concurrently with the above experience.

OR

An associate degree from a college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or the US Department of Education

AND

Five (5) years' experience as a Community Corrections Officer within the Washington State Department of Corrections.

AND

One (1) year experience working collaboratively with other agencies, providers, or local city governments in providing case management that includes direct family re-unification services or family-based treatment/counseling. This experience may have been acquired concurrently with the above experience.

OR

High School Diploma or GED equivalent

AND

Seven (7) years' experience as a Community Corrections Officer within the Washington State Department of Corrections.

AND

One (1) year experience working collaboratively with other agencies, providers, or local city governments in providing case management that includes direct family re-unification services or family-based treatment/counseling. This experience may have been acquired concurrently with the above experience.

A Master's degree in sociology, social work, psychology, criminology, or closely related field will substitute for one (1) year of the required professional case management experience.

* Professional case management includes activities such as: assessment of risk factors; designing, monitoring and/or facilitating treatment plans; determining and making referrals to resources as appropriate (chemical dependency, substance abuse, family counseling, job training assistance, etc.); maintaining official records and tracking client progress/compliance; and assisting individuals who are unable to independently access support systems or community resources such as those providing food, clothing, or monetary assistance and…
