Job Summary:
The CDL Driver will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a tractor-trailer (semi-truck), a variety of flatbed trucks, and vans. This role involves transporting products, equipment, and other materials to various destinations while ensuring adherence to company policies, safety regulations, and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards. The ideal candidate will have experience with flatbed retrievers used for loading and hauling heavy equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate a Variety of Vehicles:
Safely drive and operate semi-trucks, tractor trailers, flatbed trucks, vans, and flatbed retrievers for loading and hauling heavy equipment.
Transport Goods and Equipment:
Pick up and deliver products, equipment, and materials to various locations as needed, including customer sites, warehouses, and other facilities.
Load and Unload:
Assist with loading and unloading goods, equipment, and machinery onto flatbed trucks and trailers, ensuring proper securement and weight distribution.
Perform Inspections:
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment to ensure safety, maintenance, and compliance with DOT regulations.
Follow Safety Regulations:
Adhere to all company safety protocols, traffic laws, and DOT regulations to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
Maintain Documentation:
Accurately complete required paperwork, such as delivery logs, trip reports, mileage records, and equipment maintenance reports.
Communicate Effectively:
Coordinate with dispatchers, warehouse staff, and customers to ensure efficient and timely deliveries.
Equipment Handling:
Operate various equipment such as winches, tie-downs, chains, and straps to secure loads on flatbed trucks.
Qualifications:
Valid CDL Class A License:
Must have an active and valid CDL Class A license and medical certification.
Experience:
Minimum of 1 year of experience driving tractor-trailers, semi-trucks, and flatbed trucks, including handling heavy equipment.
Knowledge of DOT Regulations:
Familiarity with DOT safety regulations, hours of service rules, and pre-trip/post-trip inspection procedures.
Physical Fitness:
Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and work in various weather conditions.
Clean Driving Record: A clean driving record with no major violations or accidents in the past 3 years.
Flexibility:
Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
Customer Service
Skills:
Strong communication and customer service skills to interact professionally with clients and colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with flatbed retrievers or similar equipment
Forklift certification or experience
Knowledge of the local area and routes
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged Sitting:
Ability to remain seated for long periods while driving.
Climbing:
Frequently climb up and down from trucks, trailers, and loading docks, requiring physical agility and balance.
Lifting and Carrying:
Must be able to lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 50 lbs regularly, with occasional lifting of heavier items.
Bending and Stooping:
Regularly bend, stoop, crouch, and kneel to inspect loads, secure items, and handle loading/unloading tasks.
Manual Dexterity:
Ability to use hands and arms to handle, control, and manipulate equipment and tools for securing loads…
