Budget Analyst (Management Analyst I/II)

The City of Belmont is seeking a detail‑driven, forward‑thinking Budget Analyst to join our Finance Department. This is a dynamic opportunity for someone who loves numbers, meaningful public service, and cross‑department collaboration. What

You’ll Do

As our next Budget Analyst, you’ll play a key role in building and maintaining the City’s financial foundation, including:

  • Preparing the
    annual operating budget
    and
    Five‑Year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP)
  • Designing and producing the City’s
    annual budget book
    using
    Adobe In Design
  • Maintaining and supporting the City’s
    budget management system
    , providing troubleshooting, user training, and documentation
  • Analyzing revenue and expenditure trends and preparing
    financial reports, dashboards, and presentations
  • Coordinating
    budget adjustments, transfers, and amendments
  • Maintaining accurate
    chart‑of‑accounts
    and documenting financial processes
  • Supporting
    payroll
    ,
    financial audits
    , and
    system upgrades
  • Researching local, state, and federal regulations
    to assess financial impacts
  • Collaborating with departments and agencies
    to validate and share financial data
  • Taking on special projects and performing other analytical assignments
What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Excels at financial and analytical problem‑solving
  • Communicates clearly and professionally
  • Can manage multiple priorities under pressure
  • Has advanced Excel skills—formulas, pivots, charts, validations, and more
  • Can independently prepare accurate reports, models, and visual materials with minimal supervision.
  • Thrives in a collaborative, customer‑service‑oriented environment
  • Can manage website content using CMS platforms and produce polished publications using tools like Adobe In Design
Experience & Education
  • Experience:2–3 years of progressively responsible fiscal or budget‑related experience, ideally in local government
  • Education: Equivalent to Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Finance, or a closely related field
