Powers Music School seeks an experienced and energetic Board-Certified music therapist with outstanding abilities to work with students of all ages. Powers currently employs one full‑time music therapist who offers weekly individual sessions as well as offsite group work. This is an ideal opportunity for a creative, self‑motivated individual to join and help grow a vibrant department. The ideal candidate will have experience with and a preference for working with young children, people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, and neurodivergent students.
AvailabilityIdeal schedule is Saturday afternoons with the option to add Mondays as caseload grows but may be flexible – a combination of onsite work at Powers and potential offsite work. Typical working hours range from 10:00 am–7:00 pm, adjusted based on caseload needs and availability. This position is for a minimum of one full day (5–6 clinical hours), but has the potential to grow to multiple days if desired.
Duties- In consultation with our Director of Music Therapy, develop, plan, and lead group sessions (on or off-site) based on community need
- Lead individual sessions with students of all ages and abilities
- Regularly complete session documentation and progress reports
- Attend annual faculty meeting & open house
- Explore opportunities for enrollment growth
- Option to have monthly one on one supervision meetings with Director of Music Therapy
- Option to teach modified/adaptive music lessons
- Board certification from the Certification Board for Music Therapists, or eligible to sit for exam
- New music therapists also welcome to apply, documented work experience of at least one year preferred
- Effective communication skills with clients, families, and colleagues
- Demonstrate knowledge of and apply appropriate and meaningful therapeutic techniques and experiences
- Strong proficiency in multiple instruments – voice, guitar, piano, percussion, etc., as per the American Music Therapy Association Professional Competencies
- Reliable source of transportation preferred

LocationPowers Music School is located in Belmont, MA. Powers welcomes over 1,000 students weekly, offering private music lessons in nearly 30 instruments, early childhood and group classes, jazz and rock bands, Suzuki instruction, orchestra, music theory, and composition. The school is also home to summer programs for strings, piano, chamber music ensembles, and young children.
Compensation$52–62 per hour
