Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (MABVI) offers services for visually impaired adults including community volunteer programs, support groups, and vision rehabilitation.
Volunteer OpportunitiesMABVI’s greatest need is for volunteers in the Boston region who are willing to travel anywhere in the City of Boston, or a minimum of 10-15 miles. Volunteers can help with tasks such as grocery shopping, reading mail, paying bills, internet use, medical transportation, running errands, recreational activities as a guide, and other clerical tasks.
Example: A participant in Belmont would like a volunteer to help with grocery shopping and reading mail once a week or bimonthly.
Volunteer Responsibilities- Reading mail
- Paying bills
- Internet use/technology support
- Medical transportation
- Buying groceries
- Running errands in the community
- Recreational activities such as being a running/walking sighted guide
- Other clerical tasks
Opportunities are flexible and typically involve 1-2 hours a week or every other week, depending on the match’s needs.

- Schedule a Zoom chat with a member of the MABVI Volunteer Team or submit a CORI
- Meet the MABVI Volunteer Team via Zoom or phone call
- MABVI matches you with a participant
