Site and Summary

McLean Hospital Corporation, Mass General Brigham. This role is a 16‑hour rotating nursing position that requires weekend work.

Responsibilities
  • Accurately assess patients’ needs and utilize multiple data sources to identify health problems and functional status.
  • Use a Recovery Oriented Framework to identify patient strengths.
  • Perform point‑of‑care testing and communicate findings to the healthcare team.
  • Document response to interventions, demonstrating understanding of patients’ responses.
  • Identify patient behaviors that may lead to crises and apply de‑escalation techniques.
  • Plan and modify the Nursing Plan of Care and protocols; participate in multidisciplinary treatment planning.
  • Prioritize patient care needs and partner with patients/families to support recovery goals.
  • Provide a therapeutic alliance, administer medication safely (including BMV scanning), review physician orders promptly, and promote the least‑restrictive alternatives.
  • Lead patient groups and evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions.
  • Provide direction and supervision of mental health staff, delegating care interventions.
  • Assume a leadership role during medical and psychiatric emergencies and in critical incident de‑briefings.
  • Support teaching needs: deliver health teaching, document it, and inform the treatment team.
  • Maintain professional growth by completing in‑service requirements, maintaining competencies, seeking feedback, and identifying development areas.
  • Communicate effectively: maintain patient privacy and confidentiality, use a positive and supportive tone, and present oneself professionally.
  • Contribute to unit productivity through effective time management, economical use of services and supplies, and notifying the shift coordinator of additional assignment availability.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Nursing required;
    Bachelor’s in Nursing preferred. Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Licenses:
    Registered Nurse (RN) state license.
  • Experience:

    No experience required; one year medical/psychiatric experience preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    Written and verbal communication, nursing process, teamwork, MR safety certification, basic blood draw procedures (excluding IV placement), computer skills, and ability to use electronic/online clinical systems.

The Short‑Term Unit (AB1 North) focuses on depression, anxiety, suicidality, self‑injurious behavior, trauma, and personality disorders, with common comorbid substance use disorder, OCD, and eating disorders. Patient interactions are therapeutic, highly interpersonal, and skill‑based.
