• Plans, coordinates, provides and manages nursing care services and health education to nursing home guests.
• Supervises the care/services provided by Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA)/State-Tested Nursing Assistants (STNA) and other team members who care for guests.
• Provides safe and accurate medication-related interventions to guests.
• Assesses the health of guests and notifies the physician of changes in status, promptly implementing new orders.
• Selects and institutes appropriate nursing interventions to stabilize a guest’s condition and/or prevent complications.
• Contributes to the guest’s assessment (MDS/CAA’s) and the development of a plan of care.
• Visits residents on assigned unit daily to observe and evaluate each resident’s physical and emotional status and notifies the charge nurse, physician, and/or Director of Nursing when there is a change in a resident’s condition.
• Identifies resident problems and emergency situations and initiates immediate lifesaving measures in the absence of a physician.
• Provides holistic care for residents within the scope of your LPN license.
• Assists in monitoring the inventory of medications, medical supplies and equipment to ensure that an adequate supply is on hand and readily available to meet the needs of the residents.
• Performs administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc. as necessary.
• Reports occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals in accordance with the facility’s policies and procedures governing accidents and incidents.
• Documents the resident's condition and nursing needs.
• Accurately and promptly implements physicians' orders.
• Assigns nursing care to team members in accordance with the resident's needs and the person's capabilities and qualifications.
• Supervises, directs, and evaluates junior staff members and CNAs.
• Administers medications and performs treatments for assigned residents, documenting that treatment as required by company, and local, state and federal rules and regulations.
• Participates in orientation and in-service training for personnel.
• Ensures that supplies are utilized economically and equipment is clean and maintained in a safe manner.
• Reports and records pertinent observations and reactions regarding residents.
• Coordinates nursing care of residents when scheduled for therapy or procedures by other departments.
• Interviews applicants and recommends hires; participates in counseling, disciplinary action and termination of staff, to extent permitted by state practice act.
