Summary
Working under the supervision of a Senior Research Assistant, Manager or Principal Investigator following established policies and procedures, provides assistance on research studies.
Essential Functions- Monitor budget.
- Participate in budget/grant preparation.
- Training and orienting plus functions as a lead in a research setting or lab manager in a smaller lab.
- Instruct others in highly specialized techniques.
- Assist in the coordination of lab activities.
- Orient and train new personnel.
- Independently perform non-routine highly specialized experimental procedures.
- Participate in design and modification of research protocols.
- Compose and may present sections of research reports and manuscripts.
- Perform advanced data analysis using advanced statistical techniques.
- Coordinate lab activities, including infection control, radiation safety, and other required training.
- Supervise staff - responsible for hire, fire, performance evaluation and disciplinary action for staff.
- Coordinate scheduling of procedures.
- Undertake quality assurance of research techniques.
Bachelor's Degree required
ExperienceDirectly related, progressively responsible experience 3-5 years required. Supervisory experience preferred.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must have sound interpersonal skills and the ability to supervise others.
- Must possess initiative and the ability to work independently.
- Ability to identify problems and develop solutions.
- Must have a broad knowledge of scientific principles, biological structures, and laboratory techniques.
- Must possess strong analytical skills.
