Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join an educational institution in Belmont, North Carolina in a contract-to-permanent capacity. This position will play an important role in supporting daily accounting operations, helping maintain accurate financial records, and assisting with key close activities. The ideal candidate is comfortable working onsite, can manage multiple accounting priorities, and brings a strong foundation in transactional accounting and reconciliations.

Responsibilities:

- Oversee day-to-day accounting activities to support the institution's financial operations with accuracy and timeliness.

- Process and monitor accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, ensuring proper documentation and follow-through.

- Prepare account and bank reconciliations to verify balances and resolve discrepancies promptly.

- Record journal entries and maintain the integrity of the general ledger across routine accounting cycles.

- Assist with month-end close tasks, including reviewing activity, organizing supporting schedules, and helping finalize financial records.

- Use Blackbaud Financial Edge to enter, track, and manage accounting data and reporting needs.

- Collaborate with internal team members to address accounting issues, improve workflow consistency, and support departmental priorities. Requirements - Experience in staff accounting or entry-level accounting roles with hands-on exposure to day-to-day accounting operations.

- Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger activity, and journal entry preparation.

- Strong background in account reconciliations and bank reconciliations with attention to detail.

- Familiarity with month-end close support and maintaining accurate financial documentation.

- Experience using Blackbaud, preferably Blackbaud Financial Edge, in an accounting environment.

- Understanding of corporate tax, sales tax, and corporate tax return processes is preferred.

- Ability to work onsite five days per week in Belmont, North Carolina, with a standard 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. schedule and some flexibility.
