Overview

The Maintenance Technician II will perform general maintenance and repairs for the Sacred Heart Campus in Belmont, NC. The position supports the campus by assisting the Maintenance Supervisor with projects, work orders, and day‑to‑day facilities upkeep, ensuring the campus is safe, functional, and reflective of the Sisters’ mission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead daily maintenance operations across campus facilities.
  • Perform skilled repairs in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting.
  • Assist with groundskeeping, safety checks, and contractor oversight.
  • Serve as a go‑to resource during the Maintenance Supervisor’s absence and assign work duties to maintenance staff.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on machinery and mechanical equipment.
  • Test and schedule maintenance on fire alarm systems, elevators, and other critical systems.
  • Assist with irrigation systems and grounds maintenance as needed.
  • Maintain clean, safe work areas and store tools and supplies properly.
  • Participate in campus‑wide committees, staff meetings, and continuing education programs.
  • Track and report hazardous conditions or equipment issues to the Director of Maintenance or Campus Administrator.
  • Accept on‑call responsibility as directed.
Required Experience & Skills
  • 3+ years of building or equipment repair experience, especially HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or carpentry.
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent in general maintenance, or four years related experience.
  • Technical or trade‑school certification is preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to be on‑call and assist across campus as needed.
  • Ability to read and interpret maintenance manuals and safety procedures.
  • Valid New Jersey driver’s license with a clean record.
  • Personal integrity and respect for the Sisters of Mercy mission and values.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.
  • Open to guidance from supervisors and colleagues.
  • Good organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Understanding of the Catholic Church traditions and the Sisters of Mercy culture.
  • Proactive communication with Sisters, staff, contractors, and visitors.
Physical Demands
  • Occasionally required to lift or carry objects >75 lbs; frequent walking, standing, and reaching.
  • Regular use of ladders and working in uncomfortable positions.
  • Requires ability to read and interpret instructions, and basic math skills.
  • Exposure to fumes, wet or humid conditions, and chemicals.
