Our client is a well-established and growing manufacturing organization seeking an experienced Director of Accounting to lead the company's accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance functions. This is a highly visible leadership role that partners closely with executive leadership to ensure financial integrity, strengthen internal controls, and drive process improvements across the accounting organization.
The ideal candidate is a hands‑on leader with strong technical accounting expertise, experience leading and developing high‑performing teams, and a proven background within a manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities- Lead all corporate accounting operations, including general ledger, month‑end and year‑end close, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP
, company accounting policies, and all applicable regulatory requirements. - Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls while ensuring compliance with SOX (if applicable), audit requirements, and corporate governance standards.
- Coordinate and manage annual external audits and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.
- Partner with Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and executive leadership to support strategic business initiatives.
- Oversee inventory accounting, standard costing, manufacturing variances, fixed assets, and cost accounting processes.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that streamline accounting workflows, improve reporting accuracy, and leverage automation where appropriate.
- Monitor evolving accounting standards and ensure timely implementation of new guidance.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and special financial projects.
- Develop accounting policies, procedures, and best practices to support organizational growth and scalability.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- CPA strongly preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities.
- Prior experience within a manufacturing environment is required.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP
, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance. - Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, and developing accounting teams.
- Experience overseeing audits, internal controls, and financial compliance initiatives.
- Strong understanding of inventory accounting, cost accounting, and manufacturing operations.
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Infor, or similar platforms.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong analytical abilities.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to partner effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Experience supporting multi‑site manufacturing operations.
- Experience leading ERP implementations or accounting system enhancements.
- Exposure to private equity‑backed or high‑growth organizations is a plus.
- Proven success driving process improvements and accounting automation initiatives.
