THE CEO OF YOUR JOB

As the Senior Accountant, you are responsible for maintaining accurate and reliable financial records and supporting the company’s financial reporting objectives. This position is also responsible for performing timely and accurate month-end balance sheet and bank reconciliations, supporting the preparation of financial reporting packages, and assisting with year-end audit activities and requests. The Senior Accountant also contributes to the continuous improvement of accounting processes, controls, and reporting practices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage complex property accounting responsibilities with a high level of independence and sound judgment.
  • Prioritize work, manage deadlines, and balance multiple responsibilities to meet team and company goals.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource to accounting and property teams and provide guidance.
  • Perform month-end balance sheet reconciliations, research variances, and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Review lease agreements, amendments, and other lease-related documents for accuracy, completeness, and proper accounting treatment.
  • Review tenant recovery calculations and ensure recoveries are accurately reflected for new leases, amendments, and other changes.
  • Perform annual and final tenant reconciliations and follow up on outstanding items.
  • Partner with real estate management teams to prepare, review, and maintain accurate property budgets
  • Review property financial statements for accuracy and completeness, analyze results against budget and prior periods, investigate the causes of significant variances, and communicate findings and recommendations to the appropriate teams.
  • Prepare and maintain property-level cash flow statements and provide analysis as needed.
  • Review accounting adjustments, including straight-line rent, bad debt, accounts receivable, and other property-related adjustments, to ensure they are accurate, complete, and properly recorded.
  • Maintain cross-training in key areas of accounting and provide backup support as needed, ensuring continuity and coverage across the department.
  • Support acquisitions and dispositions by providing financial information, completing due diligence requests, and reviewing financial data for assigned properties or regions.
  • Serve as a primary accounting contact for property-related questions from internal teams, property managers, and external partners.
  • Manage and maintain accounting records for assigned residential management properties.
  • Assist with the preparation and compilation of financial reporting packages.
  • Support year-end audit activities by preparing schedules, reconciliations, documentation, and responses to auditor requests.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, reporting, and overall efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate and organized accounting records while meeting established deadlines and quality standards.
  • Take ownership of assigned responsibilities and communicate issues, risks, and deadlines proactively

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
Experience and/or Training
  • Considerable knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
Technology/Equipment
  • Yardi or Sage experience preferred;
    Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
