Position Summary

The Orthodontist provides comprehensive orthodontic care to pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients within a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) setting. This role focuses on delivering high‑quality, patient‑centered orthodontic services to a diverse and underserved population. The Orthodontist works collaboratively with the dental team to ensure integrated, accessible, and culturally competent care in alignment with the health center’s mission.
Provides educational, preventive, surgical, prosthetic, therapeutic and restorative services supporting total health for the control of oral disease and promotion of oral health. Oversees immediate dental clinical staff, and responsible for direct patient care consistent with professional standards and CHS policies and procedures.

Essential Job Functions
  • Diagnose, prevent, and treat dental and facial irregularities, including malocclusions and jaw alignment issues.
  • Develop and implement individualized orthodontic treatment plans.
  • Apply and adjust braces, clear aligners, retainers, and other orthodontic appliances.
  • Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and timely patient records in the electronic health record (EHR) system. Closes all patient encounters within 72 hours and before the end of the month.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans, oral hygiene, and appliance care.
  • Collaborate with general dentists, pediatric dentists, hygienists, and other care providers to coordinate comprehensive treatment.
  • Ensure compliance with FQHC regulations, clinical protocols, infection control standards, and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Participate in case conferences, quality improvement activities, and team meetings as appropriate.
  • Support the health center’s mission to provide equitable, culturally competent care regardless of patients’ differences or ability to pay.
  • Examine teeth, intra‑oral and extra‑oral tissues, and diagnose patients' hard tissue and soft tissue conditions.
  • Order, review, and document findings of radiographic imaging.
  • Assist with reviews and recommend changes in dental clinic policies, procedures, and protocols as needed to achieve Community Health Clinic goals.
  • Assist in the provision of continuing education, on‑the‑job training for staff as requested by Dental Director.
  • Participate in and support Quality Assessment/peer review and improvement activities in the organization as requested by Dental Director.
  • Attend appropriate meetings and conferences as required to promote clinic goals.
  • Assist with mentoring and training dental support staff, such as student dentists, hygienists, dental assistants.
  • Assist Billing Office staff in obtaining necessary information to assure accurate and timely billing and appropriate collections.
  • Participate in all safety programs which may include assignment to an emergency response team.
  • Actively participate and be accountable for duties assigned that support the CHS Mission and values.
