Position: Instrumentation and Control Engineer - 249389

Medix is currently partnered with a commercial nuclear technology company that is generating revenue today while advancing long-term clean fusion energy. Unlike many fusion or nuclear startups, its technology is fully operational and commercialized, making a significant impact in cancer treatment and neutron imaging.

Due to business scaling, we are seeking an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to make an impact in end-to-end lifecycle exposure. This includes supporting the design and build-out of a new medical isotope production facility. This is a core engineering role with real ownership, not maintenance-only or vendor-managed.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison between project stakeholders and the Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) engineering team.
  • Contribute to project scheduling by estimating task durations and the effort required for engineering design deliverables.
  • Evaluate vendor submittals, equipment modifications, programming changes, and deviation requests, driving technical decisions.
  • Act as the responsible engineer for assigned I&C systems and equipment, overseeing design, procurement, installation, and construction while ensuring compliance with requirements and standards.
  • Lead development of digital and analog control systems, including DCS, PLC, and DAQ, through technical review of vendor documentation and deliverables.
  • Collaborate with engineering disciplines to select and specify instrumentation for measuring and controlling critical process variables.
  • Coordinate with auxiliary and support teams to ensure proper power distribution and integration for I&C equipment.
  • Prepare instrumentation specifications, calculations, and test plans to support system design, construction, commissioning, troubleshooting, and long-term operation.
  • Develop and review cable routing, conduit and raceway layouts, installation drawings, wiring details, and loop diagrams for I&C systems.
Technical Environment
  • Mix of analog and digital nuclear instrumentation
  • PLC- and DCS-based control systems
  • Safety-related systems and qualified components
  • Highly regulated environment
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related technical discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in relevant I&C engineering roles
  • Knowledge of I&C systems, hardware, software, theory of operation, equipment environmental and seismic qualification (EQ) testing, and plant start-ups
  • Experience finalizing specifications and design documents for vendor implementation on plant control and safety-related systems
  • Experience with analog and digital instrumentation, control, and monitoring
  • Ability to think strategically and take decisive action once information is gathered
  • Ability to critically evaluate information and ask bold questions
